SENER Aeroespacial delivers the antenna feeds of all Galaxy-30 satellite reflectors

(24 October 2019 - SENER) SENER Aeroespacial has delivered to Northrop Grumman (former Orbital ATK) the antenna feeds to illuminate all the reflectors of the Galaxy-30 communications satellite: one in C band, one in Ku band and two in Ka band.

These antenna feeds include corrugated horns with orthogonal mode transducer (OMT) and diplexers for C and Ku band and a self-diplexed circular polarizer for Ka band. These are quite complex communications equipment that constitutes a critical part of the satellite payload.

This delivery has been a milestone for SENER Aeroespacial, as it is the first time that the company implements all the antenna feeds that a geostationary satellite requires and covering the main frequency bands in communications: C, Ku and Ka. To complete this milestone, the complete design of new ultra-compact C and Ku band feeds has been necessary, as well as significant improvements in Ka polarizer performances. All equipment is also capable of operating with high power levels while maintaining high electrical performances, especially with very low cross polarization levels. In addition to the usual testing campaign for this type of equipment, the four feeds have successfully passed the PIM (passive intermodulation) tests.

With this milestone, SENER Aeroespacial demonstrates its full capabilities as supplier of high-performance flight equipment for commercial communications satellites, from the initial conception to the final delivery.
